Spec Ops: The Line เป็นเกมแนว Squad-based Third Person Shooter ที่มีพื้นการดำเนินเรื่องอยู่ในยุคปัจจุบัน-อนาคตอันใกล้ ว่าด้วยเรื่องหายนะที่เกิดจากพายุทะเลทรายที่เมืองดูไบ ประเทศสหรัฐอาหรับเอมิเรดส์ จนทำให้ทั้งเมืองกลายเป็นเมืองร้างไร้คน และเป็นที่ซ่องสุมของเหล่าผู้ก่อการร้าย แต่ไม่นานมานี้กองทัพสหรัฐได้พบสัญญาณขอความช่วยเหลือจากหน่วยทหารที่เคยส่งไปช่วยประชาชนที่อพยพออกมาไม่ทัน เลยส่งให้เรา – Capt. Walker และลูกทีมไปตรวจแหล่งที่มาของสัญญา่ณนั้น แต่ระหว่างทางมันก็ไม่ได้ง่ายนะ ไหนจะพายุทะเลทรายที่จะพัดเข้ามาแบบคาดเดาไม่ได้ เพราะตัวเกมจะทำการสุ่มการเกิดพายุเอง ส่งผลให้สภาพแวดล้อมไม่มั่นคงเอาเสียเลย พื้นที่ยืนอยู่มีสิทธิ์ถล่มลงไปกลายเป็นหลุมยักษ์ ตึกที่อยู่เบื้องหน้าจะพังลงมาเมื่อไรก็ไม่รู้ ไหนจะเหล่าผู้ก่อการร้ายที่ออกมายิงกราดเราท่ามกลางซากเมืองปรักหักพัง หรือแม้กระัทั่งกลา่งพายุทะเลทราย! ท่ามกลางสภาวะอันกดดันนี้ ยังดีที่เรามีลูกทีมคอยช่วยฝ่าดงทะเลทรายนี้ไปได้ และเราสามารถสั่งการลูกทีมเราได้ตลอดเวลา เช่น เข้าที่กำบัง, โจมตีศัตรู, ยิงคุ้มกัน คล้ายๆ กับ Brothers In Arms ทำให้เกมนี้มีความเป็น Squad-based ผสมอยู่ในฉากแอคชั่นอันระทึกใจ
