In SPAZ 2, you must survive in a developing, apocalyptic galaxy. The zombie threat has been defeated, infrastructure has collapsed, fuel is scarce and resource gathering is survival.
Initially, there are hundreds of fleets in the galaxy, each trying to survive. AI captains do whatever you do. The player is nothing special and not the center of the universe.
When resource scarcity becomes critical, conflicts arise between ships that only want to survive. Factions are founded for protection or break down to hunger. Old friends become cannon fodder.
Stronger factions occupy and defend territories, establish resource centers and build stellar bases. Weaker factions could resort to banditry. Each captain is unique and persistent and shapes the galaxy.
When fractions meet, it usually leads to struggles. As the strategic side of SPAZ 2 revolves around exploration, territorial control and factions, the action section focuses on shipbuilding, tactics and resource gathering.
Battles lead to broken ships and dead crew members, but also to more ship components. All components in SPAZ 2 are flexible and are generated arbitrarily. If you see something that you like, amputate it from the enemy, grab it with the towing emitter and connect it to your ship. Shipbuilding work can be done in real time during a battle, but it can be fun to beat an enemy with its own broken wing.
Back on the star chart, battles will attract other captains looking for leftovers. Grab your new components and take off. Upgrade, repair, and prepare to continue - darker threats are already lurking.
