Dragon Quest Builders 2 นับเป็นอีกหนึ่งเกมภาคต่อที่คุณสามารถหยิบมันขึ้นมาเล่นได้ทันที ไม่จำเป็นต้องเสียเวลาควานหาแผ่นเกมภาคแรกมาเล่นก่อน คล้ายๆซีรีส์อาร์พีจีภาคหลัก ดราก้อนเควสต์ ที่ในแต่ละภาคจะมีเรื่องราว และตัวละครเฉพาะของใครของมัน ไม่ค่อยข้องเกี่ยวกันสักเท่าไหร่ เช่นกันกับตัวเกมในภาคใหม่นี้ ซึ่งบอกเล่าเหตุการณ์ต่อเนื่องหลังจากเกม Dragon Quest II เมื่อทายาท Erdrick และเหล่าผองวีรชนผู้กล้า สามารถโค่นกำจัดศัตรูตัวฉกาจ Hargon และปราบจอมมารแห่งการทำลายล้างอย่าง Malroth ลงได้สำเร็จ
