แม้หนังจะจบไปนานแล้ว แต่ตำนานจากนวนิยายชื่อดังของ J.R.R. Tolkien ยังไม่จบลงง่ายๆ และมีเรื่องราวใหม่ๆทำเป็นเกมส์ออกมาเพิ่มได้อยู่เสมอ ถึงแม้ว่าจะมีตำนานแหวนทำเป็นเกมภาคพิเศษ Aragorn's Quest ลงเครื่อง Wii ไปแล้ว แต่ก็ยังมีเรื่องราวอีกด้านของตำนานแหวนเช่นกัน ในชื่อว่า The Lord of the Rings: War in the North รวมพลังผู้เล่นต่อสู้กับกองทัพของ Sauron ทางแดนเหนือ
เกมส์ The Lord of the Rings: War in the North เป็นแนว Action RPG ที่เน้นการเล่นออนไลน์เสียส่วนใหญ่ ถึงแม้ว่าจะสามารถเล่นคนเดียวก็ได้ แต่ว่าก็เล่นไม่มากนัก เพราะภารกิจของเกมต้องทำร่วมกับเพื่อนๆจึงจะสำเร็จได้ และจะสนุกขึ้นกว่าเล่นคนเดียวด้วย โดยภารกิจของเกม The Lord of the Rings: War in the North จะเป็นให้ผู้เล่นสร้างตัวละครเผ่าที่ชื่นชอบ จาก มนุษย์ เอลฟ์ และคนแคระ มาตั้งเป็นกลุ่มพันธมิตรแห่งแหวน ต่อสู้กับพวกกองทัพปีศาจของ Sauron จากดินแดนทางเหนือ นอกจากนี้ก็ยังมีระบบพัฒนาตัวละคร อัพเกรดสคิล และอาวุธได้ตามใจชอบ
