Generation Zero เป็นเกมแนว Open World FPS ในโลกหลังหายนะปี 1980 ณ ประเทศสวีเดน ที่ทั่วประเทศถูกหุ่นยนต์บุกเข้าทำลายล้างทุกอย่าง ผู้เล่นจะได้รับบทเป็นเหล่าชาวบ้านที่ต้องปกป้องประเทศของตัวเองจากเหล่าหุ่นยนต์กระหายเลือด ผู้เล่นสามารถเลือกที่จะลุยเดี่ยวหรือเล่นพร้อมกันกับเพื่อนสูงสุด 4 คนได้แบบ Seamless co-op แบบที่เข้าแจมได้ทุกเวลา โดยทีมพัฒนามุ่งเน้นให้ผู้เล่นใช้กลยุทธต่างๆทั้งแบบกองโจรซุ่มโจมตี หรือใช้ความเปิดกว้างของสถานที่ในการเอาชนะพวกหุ่นยนต์ให้ได้ และยังคงเน้นความตูมตามของเอฟเฟคไม่ต่างจากหนังของไมเคิล เบย์อยู่เช่นเดิม
