Star Renegades จะเป็นเรื่องราวสงครามระหว่างกองทัพกบฏ กับกองทัพของจักรวรรดิที่ชั่วร้าย ระบบการเล่นนั้นจะเป็นการผสมผสานแบบ tactical turn-based ที่จะเน้นในเรื่องของการขัดขวางและโจมตีสวนกลับ เมื่อดำเนินเรื่องไประยะหนึ่งก็จะมีภารกิจแบบเร่งด่วนเพิ่มออกมา ทางด้าน AI ของฝ่ายศัตรูก็จะพัฒนาตัวเองไปเรื่อยๆ ทำให้ทุกครั้งที่เล่นจะให้ความรู้สึกที่แตกต่างและท้าทายยิ่งขึ้น นอกจากนี้ยังมีในเรื่องของการพัฒนากองทัพตัวเอง การอัพเกรดอาวุธและสกิล รวมไปถึงการพัฒนาความสัมพันธ์ของตัวละครแต่ละตัวเพื่อปลดล็อคท่าโจมตีแบบประสานด้วย
