Grim Dawn เป็นเกมที่มีระบบคล้าย Diablo ซึ่งสร้างขึ้นมาจากเอนจิ้นเดียวกับเกม Titan Quest ที่มีระบบการเล่นคล้ายกันอีกเกม Grim Dawn ประกาศสร้างโดย Crate Entertainment ตั้งแต่เดือนมกราคม 2010 แต่เนื่องจากเป็นทีมสร้างเกมเล็กๆ ตัวเกมจึงไม่เสร็จเสียที และในปี 2012 ก็ได้ลงขันขอทุนสร้างในเว็บ www.kickstarter.com และได้ทุนสร้างไปกว่า 5 แสนดอลล่าห์ จนเเกมเป็นรูปเป็นร่างออกมาให้เล่นแบบ Early Access ในปี 2013 และพัฒนาขึ้นเรื่อยๆจนกระทั่งเพิ่งมาเสร็จสมบูรณ์ในปี 2016

เนื่องจากมีอดีตทีมสร้าง Titan Quest มาร่วมพัฒนาด้วย จึงทำให้ตัวเกม Grim Dawn คล้ายคลึงกันพอสมควร อย่างเช่นการให้สร้างตัวละครเล่นขึ้นมาเองตอนแรก แล้วค่อยตัดสินใจทีหลังว่าจะเปลี่ยนคลาสอาชีพไปเล่นสายไหน โดยใช้ระบบ Skill Tree ที่คล้ายกัน จึงทำให้ผู้เล่นสามารถเรียนรู้สกิลของสองคลาส นำมาประยุกต์ใช้กันได้

Proper Notes : The RELOADED release, even after 3 attempts, is still broken on
at least 2 places (we then stopped comparing theirs to ours):

1. missed a trigger that drains constitution 3 times faster than
normal (see technical proof below)
2. some achievements like "ACH028 No Soup for You" don't work with
their crack - they disappear after restarting the game

We recommend making a clean install with this release, and remove
all traces from any previous ones. Don't just copy this crack over
another one or rename existing files and think everything will
be fine! Do not copy any other files into game dir.
Take old savegames at your own risk - it's not recommended either!
