Borderlands 3: Designer's Cut มาพร้อมกับ เนื้อหาใหม่ ปืนใหม่ แผงสกิลใหม่ รวมไปถึงโหมดการเล่นสุดแหวกแนวที่เรียกกันว่า Arms Race สำหรับโหมดการเล่น Arms Race จะมีการจัดขึ้นบนแผนที่ที่เรียกว่า Stormblink Complex โดยเมื่อเริ่มตัวของผู้เล่นจะถูกจับไปอยู่ในพื้นที่ซึ่งมีอาณาเขตอย่างจำกัด พร้อมทั้งต้องคอยมองหาอาวุธรอบตัวทุกอย่างที่หาได้มาเพื่อใช้กับจัดการเหล่าศัตรู และแน่นอนความสามารถรวมถึงสกิลต่างๆ จะไม่สามารถใช้งานได้ สิ่งที่จะพึ่งได้ก็มีเพียงปืนในมือและทักษะการเล่นของเพื่อนๆ เองเท่านั้น

โดยเป้าหมายหลักสำหรับโหมดการเล่นนี้คือ การเข้าไปกำจัดบอสที่อยู่ตรงกลางแผนที่ ซึ่งเพื่อนๆ จะสามารถลุยเข้าไปตั้งแต่เริ่มต้นเลยก็ได้ แต่ว่าจะชนะมันได้ไหมก็คืออีกเรื่องนึงเพราะเจ้าบอสตัวนี้มันโหดเอาเรื่องเลย

ดังนั้นทางที่ดีที่สุดคือการไล่ฟาร์มหาอาวุธเสียก่อน เมื่อเรายิ่งไล่กำจัดศัตรูไปมากเท่าไหร่เราก็จะยิ่งพบเจอศัตรูที่แข็งแกร่งมากขึ้น ยิ่งพวกมันแข็งแกร่งขึ้นอาวุธที่ดรอปมาก็จะยิ่งรุนแรงขึ้นไปด้วย พอเมื่ออาวุธพร้อมทีนี้ก็ถึงเวลาไปลุยกันล่ะ ซึ่งนี่ก็คือจุดประสงค์หลักที่ทางตัวเกมตั้งใจจะใส่ไว้ภายในโหมดการเล่นนี้นั่นเอง

โหมดดังกล่าวจะมีความคล้ายคลึงกับ BattleRoyale ในเกมอื่นๆ เลยก็ว่าได้ ยิ่งเมื่อเวลาผ่านไปขอบสนามก็จะยิ่งบีบเข้ามา และถ้าหากเอาชนะภายในโหมดนี้ได้เมื่อตอนจบภารกิจมาถึงเพื่อนๆ ยังจะสามารถเลือกเอาอุปกรณ์บางส่วนติดไม้ติดมือกลับออกไปได้ ซึ่งอุปกรณ์เหล่านี้บางอันยังเป็นของแรร์ที่ไม่สามารถหาจากด้านนอกได้อีกด้วย
