เกม Need for Speed: The Run นำเสนอการแข่งรถที่ท้าทายต่อกฎหมาย แต่งรถเพื่อซิ่งระห่ำตั้งแต่เมืองซานฟรานซิสโกถึงนิวยอร์ค เพิ่มความสมจริงด้วยระบบฟิสิกส์จากการขับเคลื่อน, ภาพเกมที่สวยดูเสมือนจริง เนื่องจากใช้เอนจิ้น Frostbite 2 จาก DICE ซึ่งเป็น เอนจิ้นตัวเดียวกับเกม Battlefield 3 ด้วย
