Windows 8 Consumer Preview สามารถทดลองดาวน์โหลดมาใช้ก่อนซื้อของจริงๆมาใช้งานซึ่งเวอร์ชันนี้ Microsoft ปล่อยออกมาให้โหลดฟรีๆ นะครับ ทั้งนี้คาดว่า Windows 8 จะขายจริงในปี 2012 นี้โดยจะมีสองเวอร์ชัน คือ 32 บิต และ 64 บิต โดยสนับสนุนภาษาอังกฤษ จีน ฝรั่งเศษ เยอรมัน และญี่ปุ่น (รองรับภาษาไทย) โดยในเวอร์ชั่น Windows 8 Consumer Preview นี้จะมาพร้อมกับอินเตอร์เฟซแบบ Metro UI ต้องการคอมพิวเตอร์ขั้นต่ำ CPU 1 GHz, แรม 1 GB สำหรับเวอร์ชัน 32 บิต หรือ 2 GB สำหรับเวอร์ชัน 64 บิต ส่วนฮาร์ดดิสก์นั้นจะใช้พื้นที่ในการติดตั้งประมาณ 16 GB สำหรับเวอร์ชัน 32 บิต และ 20 GB สำหรับ 64 บิต ส่วนการ์ดแสดงผลต้องสนับสนุนไดรเวอร์ DirectX 9 ขึ้นไป
